Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the incident left him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
