19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his first title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
